Basalt mesh geogrid50 × 50 mm

A flexible, coated basalt fibre grid placed within a designed pavement system. The mesh provides reinforcement across an area, helping distribute loads and limit crack movement in roads and overlays.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION

Product
specifications.

The ≥92 kN/m tensile rating was confirmed by BasaltechSA in September 2026. Request the current product test certificate for test method, direction and design values. Net installed coverage depends on overlaps and cutting.

PRODUCT OVERVIEW

MATERIAL FUNCTION
& PERFORMANCE.

Flexible basalt mesh for asphalt reinforcement, road rehabilitation and pavement layerworks. Performance depends on the complete design, material compatibility and installation.

01

Load distribution

Provides reinforcement within the pavement structure to help distribute traffic loads.

02

Crack control

Helps limit reflective crack movement when correctly positioned and bonded in the pavement system.

03

Practical handling

Supplied in flexible rolls for laying over a prepared surface.

04

Non-metallic reinforcement

Basalt fibre does not undergo the rusting mechanism associated with steel.

BEFORE YOU START

Installation considerations.

Use these as planning points alongside the approved project specification and supplier instructions.

  1. Confirm the pavement design, grid location and product specification with the project engineer.
  2. Prepare the receiving surface and follow the approved bonding, fixing and overlap requirements.
  3. Lay the mesh flat and keep it in position during placement of the next layer.
  4. Follow the approved paving and compaction sequence. Obtain the installation guidance before work starts.
PRODUCT QUESTIONS

More about
basalt mesh geogrid.

Is this basalt rebar?

No. This product is a flexible basalt mesh geogrid. It is not a rigid rebar product or an automatic replacement for steel reinforcement.

What size is a roll?

The published roll size is 2.95 m wide by 100 m long, with 50 × 50 mm mesh openings. This gives a nominal area of 295 m² before overlaps and cutting.

What is the mesh tensile strength?

BasaltechSA confirms a tensile rating of at least 92 kN/m. The new promotional pamphlets show 90 kN; use the confirmed 92 kN/m rating and request the applicable test certificate for specification.

Can it be used for soil stabilisation?

The pamphlet lists soil stabilisation and slope protection as potential applications. Suitability depends on product-specific junction strength, soil interaction, durability and the geotechnical design. Confirm these requirements before specifying the mesh.
